Blog #8: We’re Taking A Stay-Cation.

HAPPY SUNDAY! It’s that time again, isn’t it? Sunday: the “official” start of the week, the day before the worst day ever (Monday), and the day people start to get into their routines again. When we get ready for school, work, etc. Tomorrow normally means work for Suketu and I. But this week, we’re switching it up a bit.

We are… TAKING A STAY-CATION. That’s right, a stay-cation. A vacation you said? Nope. A STAY-CATION.

stay·ca·tion

/ˌstāˈkāSH(ə)n/: a vacation spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.

How glorious is that?

I feel so close to you HPC. I can be honest with you. And man, am I incredibly burnt out. Burnt out on my 9-5. Burnt out in my content. Burnt out in my fitness routine. Quite literally, burnt out on everything and I don’t know how to combat it, other than taking a break. Usually a break means traveling somewhere else, and taking a break from my day-to-day. Well, I AM doing that, but taking a break from my full-time job, at HOME. Suketu and I talked about it a lot, because we wanted to take this week off for a few reasons. One, we’re tired. Two, it’s our anniversary this week (both days lol), the 17th and 18th, But you guys know, Suketu travels for work. So, he feels like traveling = work. So, that was a no-go, and I was so okay with it.

Why am I feeling burnt out, you may ask? Well, I am working 3 jobs simultaneously. That of a Data Scientist where I aid in the programming of data for clinical trials, creative director for SPatelProductions which encapsulates HalfPastChai, SPatelProductions, and my own social media pages, and lastly, a wife, daughter, sister, and friend. I love it, don’t get me wrong. I am so thrilled I can wake up and pursue my dreams in our business and content creation every day. But balancing that on top of my full-time job that mentally exhausts me every day… it’s becoming a lot. A lot to the point where I have to eventually make a decision that will change a lot of things for Suketu and I, and that’s scary, but also exciting. But that’s a blog post for another day.

Tomorrow marks the first day of our staycation. What am I going to do with all my time?! I have no clue. I have so much to do actually, so many things I normally don’t have time to do. That’s precisely why we decided to do this thing, so we would have time to take a break from our jobs and catch up on the things that mean the most to us. We’re going to clean our house (yay!), spend time with Sylvie, create content and even get ahead on creating, and celebrate our 3-year wedding anniversary. We owe it to ourselves to take a little bit of a break, because the feeling of burnout only gets worse and worse the longer you let it persist.

Suketu and I were talking and comparing it to fall break back when we were in high school. Remember those times? You get fall break, winter break, spring break, and summer break. Back then we had no obligations, nothing to complicate our day to day, nothing that made our day feel like an hourglass that’s running out of time. We could take a break and actually enjoy it.. whereas now, as adults, we don’t just get “breaks”. And how is that fair? Being an adult is so much harder than being a teenager, and I think a lot of that is due to the LACK of breaks we get in life. Life only gets more complicated as you age. Petition to give adults more breaks, SAY I.

Food for thought. What do you think Half Past Crew? I deserve a break, and so do you. I LOVE YOU! Thank you for coming back each week and reading my special blog posts for you. I know I know, last week I skipped. I’m sorry. But to be honest, I’m struggling to balance life. And I hate that I’m letting my stress and trouble balancing life’s activities impact what I love most. But believe me guys, I’m working on this and something exciting is going to be happening in the near future. Just bear with me :)

Please go watch the podcast episode, we put a lot of love into it. Have a GREAT start to your week <3 See you next time.
